Album cover art for "Rocket's Red Glare" by OURS. The image features a dark, moody background with a bright red streak of light cutting diagonally across the top left. In the lower right, a silhouette of a person in a long coat stands facing away. The band name "OURS" appears in large red letters, with the album title "ROCKET'S RED GLARE" in smaller white text below it. The overall aesthetic is mysterious and dramatic, suggesting the intense, alternative rock style of the album.

Austin-based new wave alternative duo Mass Minor has released their latest EP, "Vast Reflections," in May 2024. AJMJR (Lead Vocals, Guitars, Programming) and Filius Dex (Bass, Synth, Backing Vocals) present six tracks that blend pure new wave with modern production and alternative touches.

Their sound features abundant 80's-like synths, simple yet solid drums, and guitars reminiscent of The Cure, Depeche

Mode, and Nine Inch Nails. AJMJR's atmospheric vocals complement the music perfectly. The standout track "Worthy" shines with its catchy hook and hit potential.

"Vast Reflections" showcases a more refined and cohesive sound compared to their debut album "Become Each Other." The EP, produced by AJMJR and mixed by Tim Palmer, boasts well-balanced layers and sonic textures. An unexpected highlight is the 80s hair metal-inspired guitar solo in "No Time for This."

While not revolutionary, Mass Minor executes their ideas flawlessly. This EP should appeal to fans of classic new wave and modern acts like Urban Heat. As a promising "diamond in the rough," Mass Minor deserves wider recognition, making "Vast Reflections" highly recommended for lovers of both vintage and contemporary alternative music.
